Daniel Loosli knows a thing or two when it comes to keeping skiing weird. From his unique carving style throughout the park to riding directional skis where most people would opt for a twin tip, he has really outdone himself this time. 'Hang Ten,' as he is calling this project, is the embodiment of Loosli embracing surf culture on his skis. Using perhaps the most surf-inspired ski we make, the LINE Sakana, Daniel mounted up his bindings on the very nose of the ski, to quite literally Hang Ten while ripping down the mountain. We could go on and on about how we're blown away by Daniel's creativity, but I think it's best we let the video do the talking for us. After watching, be sure to scroll down to marvel at some of the images from the project, along with reading some words from Daniel about the process of filming Hang Ten.
*Disclaimer* - It is not recommended to mount your skis outside of the proper binding region, as this may not ensure you have solid screw retention on your bindings. Always consult your local shop before mounting.
What was the idea behind the project?
Pretty simple! I'm a big fan of surfing, especially when it comes to riding a longboard. I figure if you can do it on the water, maybe it will work with skis too. Well, it wasn’t as easy as I thought!
What Was The Inspiration Behind The Project?
I saw Nicholas Wolken with a Korua Snowboard where you can move your stance during riding. He moved his stance so he could ride the very nose of the board. I wanted to try that on skis!
How Hard Was It To Ski? Did It Take A While To Get Used To?
It was so hard in the beginning. You have to always be leaning back. On the groomers, it’s relatively easy, but my legs were burning like a hellfire after that day in powder! I only had time to shoot this for one day because I was focused on other things this season, so I had to push through the burn.
Anything You Want To Add?
It’s important to know that I would never ever mount a fresh Sakana like that. It was a Sakana that had blown out edges, so I couldn’t ride it anymore. So it was perfect timing to try the Noserider. Also a big thank you to Sport Beat in Flims who made it possible for me!
