With Laax being the familiar stomping ground for Dani and Migi these guys felt at home with all the features the park had to offer, including the mini-pipe that was a little more funky than your average. With the gracefully named mine-pipe event DRINK SEXY OPEN taking part over the weekend ahead of the trip, the team were pumped to throw themselves into this modified mini-pipe with bonks, wall rides, channel gaps and palm trees!
Before the crew could behold this Frankenstein-style setup, they were up at the crack of dawn with Yohan living up to his name of Sleepy after spending the night in his car. Early worm catches the bird…or something like that, the crew were on the mountain ahead of the lifts rolling with the prospect of that early morning spring corduroy softened up nicely enough to dial in some carves. We were greeted with quite the opposite, of what can be best described as ‘loud’ skiing on bulletproof conditions that even the Blade wasn’t quite ready for.
Soon enough after knocking back some coffees, the sun put its hat on and the mountain quickly warmed up with spring slush now in full swing. The crew was hot lapping the long feature line Laax had to offer with much of the first day spent sessioning the rail section before moving onto the jazziest of mini-pipes. From nose bonks to cork 7s, hand plants to boosting gaps, and more slashing than Wesley Snipes in Blade (now that’s marketing 101) this unique session had it all.
Day 2 started a little cruisier with the guys keen on putting together some combos on the jump line and linking up some train shots. Choreographing these kind of shots is no easy task with speed management and timings proving more difficult than the concept itself. Usually 3 was the magic number to get the shot we were after, only 1 shot was nailed on the first try with Sämi and Sleepy lacing up a synchronized nose butter combo and narrowly avoiding a collision by a whisker…causing a worrying sounding gasp you’d expect to hear from your Mum rather than 2 grown men.
Spring days are always a hoot, especially when the sun is beaming down, the laps are slushy, the chairlift chat is buzzy and ending the day with a beer (or keeping it more Euro with an Aperol Spritz). Daze at Laax was a hella fun 2 days of blasting around the mountain on the Blade and we hope you enjoyed tuning in!
